The year 1966 is largely remembered as the year in which England won the football World Cup, but a more significant, tragic and shocking event also took place that year. In memory of the Aberfan Disaster of the 21 October 1966 when colliery spoil tip No. 7 collapsed and slid down the mountainside towards the mining village of Aberfan in South Wales. Thousands of tons of colliery waste engulfed two farm cottages and much of the Pantglas Junior School. In total, 116 children and 28 adults lost their lives. This wasn't a natural disaster but man-made. These children's deaths were entirely avoidable and the subsequent cover-up showed how little the National Coal Board of Great Britain (NCB) and Harold Wilson's Labour Government valued the working- class children of Aberfan. The Aberfan Disaster stands as a totemic example of the way in which working-class lives are criminally devalued by those in power, particularly, and especially in this instance, the lives of the Welsh. Out of every Aberfan 1966 product sold, Cuss Roberts will donate 20% of its profit to the Aberfan Memorial Charity. Now the Charity doesn't need the money any more, but Cuss Roberts still wants to donate out of respect for those who perished and for the people of Aberfan.<\/p>
