In memory of the Aberfan disaster of the 21 October 1966 when colliery spoil tip No. 7 collapsed and slid down the mountainside towards the village of Aberfan in South Wales. Thousands of tons of colliery waste engulfed two farm cottages and much of the Pantglas Junior School. In total, 116 children and 28 adults lost their lives.
